Companies with a strategy for quality will be at an advantage
With the increasing complexity of products, regulatory oversight and price pressures, there seem to be few levers management can pull to increase value – outside of getting really lucky with the development pipeline.
But the process of developing new therapies or devices is long and intricate with many participants, and there are still places where improvements remain to be made.
The pressures of a regulated industry are as severe as they come. How can you create breakthrough thinking in such an environment?
Try as you might, it’s not easy even partially to shake off the compliance mindset and adopt alternative ways of thinking.
It’s a culture change. And to be successful it needs to be supported by the leadership team. Inability to recruit the support of senior management is the number one reason for project failure. It’s easier to gain support by being clear on the opportunities and where in the business they can be found.
In our experience, the opportunities for major breakthroughs are most often in the drug development and discovery stages, or in the later sales and marketing stage. Although these are both areas where creativity is to the fore, there are often improvements to be found by applying a process mind to their activities.
